A Great Low Priced Home Gym

The Total Gym 1800 is a home exercise machine that tones and strengthens the important muscle groups using body resistance exercises on a unique gliderboard system similar to a rowing machine with a sliding inclined seat. As you improve your fitness you can increase resistance on the machine by increasing the incline.

Total Gym are a trusted brand who first appeared on our television sets 11 years ago and since then have sold over 3 million home gyms, they offer excellent customer support.

The 1800 has been much improved after complaints about earlier Total Gym models not being large enough, the new gliderboard gives more support to your body with a longer length of 51 inches and a width of 16 inches.

The safety of the machine has also been improved with a new new automated locking mechanism.

This gym offers more than 60 different exercises that can be used in hundreds of different combinations, the machine looks deceptively basic but it can work all parts of your body and strengthen and tone just about any muscle.

There are a number of attachments to add to the usefulness of the machine including;

an ab crunch attachment to build rock hard stomach muscles, a dip bar, a wing attachment, push up bar, a leg pulley which is great for stretching, leg exercises and flexibility. Also a Pilates bar to strengthen those core muscles.

Who would buy the Total Gym 1800 Club? 

Straight off I’m going to say if you are a weight trainer or looking for big gains in muscle mass this isn’t the home exercise machine for you, check out some of our other reviews. This machine would suit beginner or intermediate users and would be suitable for all sizes and age groups looking to improve their all round fitness, you will soon see gains in flexibility, body toning, weight loss and overall body strength. We also recommend it to people with smaller apartments because it doesn’t have lots of weight bars and rods it can easily and conveniently be folded away and stored in a closet or slid under a bed.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

The number one feature of this home exercise machine is that it’s fun, rather than going through the motions and pumping weights for half an hour you are sliding up and down and back and forward all the time you are changing positions to work different areas of your body. This isn’t one of those gimmicky exercise machines you see on Television that after a couple of times use are left to rust and gather dust in the garage, you will love to perform workouts on this machine and there are literally hundreds of combinations of exercises that you can do on it.

Next we thought for the price it gave excellent value, you can work out every muscle in your body with all the add on features such as the ab board crunch attachment, dip bar and leg attachment.

So forget expensive gym memberships or having to buy multiple pieces of home gym equipment this is an all in one fitness unit that will improve your body shape in less than 30 minutes a day.

The DVD which features two full work outs and instructions on how to switch between exercises and how to use the different added attachments is really useful and makes sure that you can get straight on to the machine after watching it and know how to use it effectively.

Total Gym also have a reputation for great customer service if anything does go wrong with your home gym equipment. Make sure that you take a note of the serial number though which is usually on the bottom of the glider board as this proves that you have a genuine Total Gym.

Cons:

No home exercise machine is perfect and we did notice some very minor flaws in the Total Gym 1800.

We have used a lot of home gym equipment in our time and found the product to be fairly easy to use but we think that the gliderboard might be a bit awkward at first for someone who is not used to exercise equipment.

Sometimes adjustments have to be made to the machine during a work out routine that can be a bit frustrating and slow things down, we suggest you make sure to watch the DVD first to make sure that you are comfortable with how the machine works.

Even though it packs up fairly small it does take up a lot of room once set up, so you might need to move furniture and breakables out of the way first but again this is true of most home exercise machines and this is one is more compact than most.

Lastly we think on the whole this is a safe home gym with no heavy weights to come crashing down or anything like that but we would suggest if you have long hair to tie it back as some buyers of this machine have reported on how easy it is to get long hair caught in the machine. When setting up or putting away the machine take your time and be wary of fingers or thumbs getting caught.

The Total Gym 1800 is as a quality machine that is both fun and effective with a  lower price tag than comparable home gym equipment.
