“I bought the Blaze in November of 2007. Since then I have lost over 32 pounds and increased my overall strength beyond my wildest expectations. All of this is good, but what is really great is the incredible stretch you get from the rod technology vs just bulking up from lifting traditional weights…(read more here: Bowflex Blaze Home Gym Review)”
“I used to work as a personal trainer and thought I would never be able to find one single machine that gave me the kind of work out I got at the gym. That is until I got the Bowflex Blaze…(read more here: Bowflex Blaze Home Gym Review)”
Pros & Cons
Pros:
Well let’s start with getting it out of the box and assembly, pretty much all the consumers reviews said even though it is a heavy machine at over 200lbs the parts can be unpacked separately and then put together fairly easily the instructions were said to be easily understood. The average times for assembling the Bowflex Blaze was between 1 ½ and 4hrs depending on their practical abilities, it was suggested that at least two people carry out the assembly to make things easier.
The Bowflex Power Rod resistance system was deemed to be preferable to conventional weight based home gym equipment. Reviewers noted that the weight remained consistent throughout the movement and thus helping prevent injury.
More and more people are going for a toned body with definition these days and users of the Bowflex Blaze have been saying what an incredible stretch is obtained from the rod technology as opposed to just gaining bulk as you do in lifting traditional weights.
This added flexibility was definitely a welcome benefit for the older users of this gym.
As an added bonus consumer reviews mentioned that it was fun to use and had a more motivating effect than the free weights or gym machines that they had previously used for work-outs.
While it was said that this was a really smooth piece of home gym equipment, It was also commented on how quiet it is. Night Owls or early risers who want to work out when their family are asleep will benefit from this.
The safety aspects of Bowflex gyms was also a plus, it is far safer than using free weights and for those that wish to perform heavy lifting routines you don’t need to rely on someone spotting for you when carrying out your work out.
If you want a high quality piece of home gym equipment Bowflex are renowned for their workmanship as well as the hard wearing components. The Bowflex Blaze Home Gym comes with a 5 year warranty on parts and a lifetime on the Power Rods.
Users appreciate that it comes with a sliding seat rail that allows for aerobic rowing and leg presses. While this isn’t a cardio machine as such the rowing function was praised for being both functional and very smooth, so it was easy to get a good stroke going.
You are able to work so many parts of your body with over 60 exercises on one machine. Many different machines claim this feature, but Bowflex is one of the few that delivers.
You can quickly switch from one routine to a completely unrelated routine such asi going from shoulders to legs all in the same place. The speed at which you can adjust resistance and muscle groups being worked is virtually unbeatable by most other methods.
At some point you might get that your strong enough to use this machine at its heaviest resistance, the good thing is that you can carry on getting stronger as Bowflex offers upgrades to the Bowflex Blaze. The upgrade kits will expand your total weight resistance to 310 or 410 pounds depending on your needs.
Cons:
Due to the limits of the cables and bench there are exercises that tall people (6’4” or higher) are unable to do such as lying down exercises and overhead exercises. Modifications may have to be made or look at other options.
Many users have noted that the Power Rods do not seem to meet their advertised resistances performing a routine, but if this is your only piece of strength building equipment then it should really matter. There does seem to a marked difference between free weights and Bowflex’s given weight. You do have to remember this is a resistance based system though so the actual muscle gains are in flexibility as well as strength,
Some users have complained about the leg press / extensions add on and have found it poorly designed compared to the rest of the design.
A lack of leg and abdominal exercises seemed to be a problem as well one reviewer describing it as good for an upper body work out but average for abdomen and legs because there’re is only two leg work outs and one ab work out that you can do. One way around this would be to buy a cheap abdominal exerciser for this use or even a yoga mat and a book on ab exercises would produce pretty good results.
The only other minor complaint we thought we’d mention was the actual room that the Bowflex Blaze Home Gym took up, you need a pretty large room to set this up in and also you should watch out for the long bolts that protrude out an inch or so in one or two areas, users have complained about stubbing toes and banging their ankles on these.
